Industry expert guest speakers prove a hit at our customer conference | 22 October 2013
Industry experts gave a series of interesting speeches at our customer conference, which took place in London last Thursday (17th October)
There were five guest speakers in total, each covering a different topic from either a property or technology perspective. These sessions took place in addition to seminars focused on each of our four products – Aspasia, Horizon, Planet and Qube.
Amin Rajan, CEO of UK-based think tank CREATE-Research took to the main stage in the morning to address the question: How are institutional investors investing in real estate and what do they want from their asset managers? The discussion drew on results from the think tank’s recently-published report Investing in a Debt Fuelled World and identified three main learning points. Overall, he argued transformational leadership is key to future development.
LJ Rich (pictured above), technology presenter for BBC Click from Perfect Pitch Productions, presented the latest technology innovations from around the world and discussed how these will change how we interact with technology in the future. From Google Glass to electronic cat ears that display how you’re feeling, the presentation covered a range of ideas for how changing consumer technology is driving business and will change how we work in the future.
Jon Neale, Head of UK Research at Jones Lang LaSalle, spoke about the increasing popularity of institutional residential investment but explained how attractive this remains in future is dependent – along with other factors – on the regulator.
Rob Harris of Ramidus discussed the facilities management profession, highlighting how it has evolved in recent times and is now a key influence as a driver of efficiency and effectiveness. He argued that there is now an opportunity to reposition FM as an integral part of core business planning in a front-of-house role by creating tangible value for the business through workplace improvements.
Jeff Platt, Chief Executive of the IRPM (Institute of Residential Property Management), spoke about Leasehold reform specifically evaluating progress over the past 11 years following the Commonhold/Leasehold Reform Act of 2002. He subsequently spoke about potential legislation and made his own suggestions on future developments.
“We were very excited to welcome leading figures from the industry to this year’s conference,” says James Lavery, Head of Marketing at Qube Global Software. “The sessions were excellent and proved really interesting for our attendees.”
