Natal, Brazil tipped to be new ‘hotspot’ | 15 April 2013
Brazil’s tourism officials have launched a campaign to encourage foreign property investors to Natal, propertywire.com reports.
Natal, in the north east of the country, will play host to the World Cup in 2014 and is a popular holiday destination with millions of Brazilians. Now, in a bid to increase interest in the region, an ambitious upgrade plan has been announced by Secretary of State for Tourism in Rio Grande do Norte, Renato Fernandes.
His plans include a general upgrade of the area, which comprises many stunning sandy beaches. Proposals thus far encompass the addition of a new marina, golf courses, luxury hotels and possibly a theme park. Almost 100 hectares in central Natal is to be restored into a pedestrianised open air cultural attraction.
It is hoped that the improvements will transform Natal and the whole coastal area into one which is more attractive to foreign property investors who might ‘want to act swiftly’ to increase their portfolio, according to propertyshowrooms.com. Especially given that awareness of the area will increase when the World Cup takes place, perhaps prompting more foreign interest and driving prices upwards.
Mr Fernandes commented about the plans: “Everyone has something to gain from tourism, from the poorest to the richest. I don’t think there is anything quite like tourism that can benefit the whole society…I think tourism is going to transform the state.”
