Singapore welcomes first facilities management show | 7 June 2012
Singapore is to launch its first ever dedicated facilities management trade show, which will take place on May 7th – 9th 2013.
According to constructionnewsportal.com, the International Facility Management Expo 2013 (iFaME) will be held at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre and if all goes well, a similarly-placed conference could take place too.
The host of the show, Mr Nelson Tee – who is president of he Specialists Trade Alliance of Singapore (STAS) – explained why the show will prove so important to the country. He said: “As the building stock in Singapore increases and undergoes significant re-building, the need for expertise to maintain and manage these properties becomes crucial.”
His comments were echoed by the event planner of iFaME 2013, Mr Edward Liu, who added: “With the focus on sustainable green building, as well as workplace health and safety issues, there will be increased pressure on facility managers to perform beyond their stipulated roles and responsibilities.”
Liu added that the show would provide an excellent platform for facilities management professionals to build on their existing skills and knowledge.
Some 200 exhibitors are expected to take up a stand at the expo and around 6,000 people from around 15 countries could attend, rala.com.au revealed. Sponsors include the Asian Intelligent Building Institute (AIIB), the Singapore Exhibition & Convention Bureau and the Building & Construction Authority of Singapore.
With 994,000 sq m of office space expected to be added to Singapore’s existing supply, it is thought the facilities managers of today and the future could benefit from the support the expo could provide.
