Centerpoint’s Intermodal Facility (CIF) and BNSF’s Logistics Park opened their doors to IAMC members on October 29th, 2015. Guests received an exclusive, behind the scenes tour of North America’s largest master-planned inland port, complete with a thorough education on Supply Chain Logistics.
Sharon Miller Trackman, the America’s Director of Marketing for Qube Global Software, got to attend the event. “Learning about the immense transportation infrastructure that is so strategically positioned just 40 miles southwest of downtown Chicago was fascinating, even a bit intimidating,” claimed Sharon.
Centerpoint’s Intermodal Facility spans more than 6,500 acres and is readily available to accommodate a variety of real estate requirements. These include warehousing, distribution and manufacturing facilities, container receipt and storage, trailer and equipment management. Adjacent to CIF is BNSF’s 770-acre intermodal facility that opened in 2002, quickly growing to become one of the nation’s largest and most active inland rail terminals. BNSF Railway is one of North America’s leading freight transportation companies with a rail network of over 32,500 route miles in 28 states and three Canadian provinces. The Illinois location toured provides international intermodal service to and from every major west coast port, as well as an on-site auto mixing facility.
Attendees reconvened for a working lunch at the Autobahn Country Club where they learned more about Supply Chain Logistics from Bob Shaunnessey, Vice President of Partners Warehouse. As a supply chain provider since 1989, Partners Warehouse accommodates a wide variety of logistics services for diverse commodities, including consumer, industrial and bulk products. “I think we all came out of this local event with an even greater appreciation for the interworking’s and complexities of supply chain logistics,” stated Miller Trackman.
