SIOR Fall is a hit in Nashville, TN | October 27, 2014

This fall’s four (4) day agenda for the SIOR (Society of Industrial and Office Realtors) World Conference attracted the nations’ top rated brokerage professionals to Nashville, TN.  From October 22 through 25, Sharon Miller Trackman of Qube Global Software had the opportunity to expand her knowledge of the industry through educational sessions, exhibition time, and networking.

SIOR’s newly modified conference format separated educational sessions from exhibit hall times.  This allowed for improved activity and product investigation during trade show hours.  Meals were also served in the general space, enabling exhibitors to have increased access to brokers for more detailed discussions.

This years’ programming was impressive. Prestigious keynote speakers included: Jonah Berger, a Marketing Professor at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania; and world-renowned swimmer Diana Nyad, best known for completing the long distance swim from Cuba to Florida on August 31, 2013.

Berger reviewed the science behind why some concepts become known, while others fail miserably. He presented relevant examples for our industry from his best-selling book “Contagious: Why Things Catch On.” The premise of these stories depicts how six basic principles on the reasoning behind why some things are and remain more ‘contagious’ than others.

Nyad recounted her success at completing the 53-mile journey from Cuba to Florida on her third attempt. Following the theme of other sessions, 63 year old Nyad summarized her success with three messages: one is we should never give up; two is you are never too old to chase your dreams; and three is it looks like a solitary spot, but it takes a team to be successful.

Additionally, a variety of concurrent sessions were held, including discussions on:  truly human leadership; navigation in a world of varying global citizenships; emerging trends for the real estate occupier; and roundtable discussion groups to address timely and practical issues.
