Qube Global Software is proud to be sponsoring Team GBR at the upcoming 2012 Cadet Class World Championships in Sandy Bay, Hobart this December.
The Cadet Class is an RYA recognised sailing class offering children up to the age of 17 a unique opportunity to learn to sail a dinghy in a competitive environment. Children race at Club, Regional and National level and those selected to represent GBR at the World Championships are offered access to the best junior racing in the world.
Subsidised race training with the best coaches in the UK means that many Cadet Sailors progress along the RYA Pathway and some will go on to represent our country at World and Olympic Championships as adults. The junior sailors are encouraged at an early age to ‘Sail for Gold’ and it is no accident that Great Britain produces many of the world’s best sailors and that so many of the past and present Olympians began their sailing careers in a Cadet.
The 2012 World Championships will be hosted by Sandy Bay SC in Hobart, Tasmania. Previous World Championships have attracted entries in excess of 150 boats and Sandy Bay has been the host on two previous occasions when over a dozen countries sent teams to contest this keenly fought series in typically testing Derwent River conditions.
The nine GBR boats, each manned by a helm and a crew, will form part of an enormously competitive line up of the world’s best young sailors from Countries such as Argentina, Australia, Belarus, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Ukraine, United Kingdom and Uruguay. The 18 young GB sailors, many of whom will be competing in their first World Championships, will need to cope with unfamiliar waters under intense pressure and we are confident that they will do so with courage and competitive determination.
